I Apologize...

My goodness, I have been such a terrible blogger lately! Please bear with me. I have a lot going on now but I promise to get back to it soon! In the meantime, follow me on Twitter (@HappyLittleNest) where I have been posting about all the cool giveaways that I have been seeing recently!

Wedding Wednesday: The Story of How We Met, Part 1

This is my fiance, Richard.

I know. You're jealous. I have quite the catch.

We met during the first week of my Sophomore year in college at the University of South Florida. I went back to my tiny on-campus apartment after one of my morning classes and there he was sitting in my living room. I'm serious - I really couldn't make this up. One of my roommates walked out of her room when she heard me come in and introduced him as a friend of one of her friends. he was a cutie. I was already interested (now that I knew he wasn't robbing the place!). We sat and chatted for a little while before he and his friends had to leave. He seemed like he had been interested in me too but he almost walked away without getting my number. I wasn't about to let that happen! He grabbed his skateboard on the way out and, with all the suaveness I could muster, I said, "hey I've always wanted to learn how to ride one of those!" He enthusiastically offered to teach me and I gave him my number and told him to give me a call sometime.

A couple of days later our mutual friends decided to go to a comedy show that was being held on campus. We sat next to each other and exchanged awkward, shy conversation through the entire show. Before we parted ways that evening we scheduled a date for later in the week during which he would teach me how to skateboard. We didn't set a time as he planned to just text me when he got on campus that day. As a side note - I am the least coordinated person on earth. That's actually probably an understatement. I regularly run into stationary objects. It's a gift. This whole learning-to-skateboard thing was bound to be interesting...

Tune in next week for this story's thrilling conclusion.

Bible in 90 Days - Week 1

In week one, we read the books of Genesis and Exodus.

I find that journaling allows me to get the most out of what I am reading.

I write down any questions that I come up with as I go. This way, I don't get distracted with trying to remember everything I want to look up or ask someone about later and it helps me remember to actually ask those questions. Then afterwards (following a method that I stole from this lovely lady) I pick out a particular verse that stands out from the day and dissect why that one is so important. I decide how I want this particular reading to affect change in my life and how I want God to work in me to make that change happen. It's called the S.O.A.P. method - which stands for Scripture, Observation, Application, and Prayer.

Here are my burning questions and the most important things that I took away from this week's readings:

Questions:

1) Genesis 4:36 says "Then men began to call on the name of the Lord." What does this mean? Weren't Adam, Eve, Cain, and others already calling on the name of the Lord?

2) Why does the genealogy of Adam in chapter 5 start with his 3rd son, Seth?

3) When describing man's life span throughout the book of Genesis the Bible says "he lived ___ years", but in chapter 5 verses 22-24 the rhetoric changes. It says that Enoch "walked with God" for a designated number of years. Why is the death of Enoch recorded differently than everyone else?

4)  Why did Shem's descendants (Genesis 11: 10-26) live so long if in Genesis 6:3 God limits the lifespan of man to 120 years?

5) I want to research the tradition of swearing an oath by placing a hand under another person's thigh. I assume it's kind of like shaking hands in modern America but I'd like to find out more about it.

Observations:

1) It's okay to take a break. God wants us to rest - in fact he commands it!

2) Even in times of trouble, God is there to show us steadfast love. And how great that love is!

3) Joseph's faith and optimism almost brought me to tears. Even after his brothers sold him into slavery and he was imprisoned because he chose to do the right thing he had faith that God would work everything out in his favor. It's good to have these reminders that God is always looking out for us, even when it doesn't seem like it.

4) Exodus 15:13 is a truly beautiful verse (and it's in one of my favorite Bible stories!). "In your steadfast love you led the people whom you redeemed; you guided them by your strength to your holy abode." "Steadfast love" seems to be a theme that runs through this week's reading. How incredible is it that God is able to love us like that?

I would love to know what you all took away from these books. What were your questions as you read? Do you know the answers to some of mine or do you have any theories? What did you learn and what changes do you hope to make in your life as a result?

During this next week we will be reading Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy 1 - 23:11.

Wedding Wednesday

For this Wedding Wednesday, I'm afraid I don't have only fun things to report.

Unfortunately, our photographer had to back out. She was very sweet about it and I totally understand but I'm down to 5 1/2 months until the wedding and it seems like all the good photographers are booked! So, I would like to enlist your help. If any of you are from Pennsylvania and know any good photographers in the Roaring Springs area please let me know!!!

In better news, we bought Mr. OurLittleNest's suit! I am very excited! He is going to look so handsome (not to say he doesn't every other day).  Anyway, it looks something like this:

And the groomsmen will be wearing something like this (although in different colors):

Thanks for stopping by. I hope you have a wonderful day!

P.S. I know, I should have posted "Bible in 90 Days: Week 1" a week ago. I'm a terrible slacker. I will have that up soon!

Wedding Wednesday: Some Inspiration

The wedding is coming up so fast - only six more months! There is so much to do still but I mostly have just the fun stuff left :)

This week I got my Save-the-Dates addressed and sent off. I really thought it would take more time than it did. I haven't done any calligraphy since I was in high school so I was really nervous about how they would turn out but I'm pretty happy with how they look. I had a bunch of extra envelopes so I made up a mock one to show off. I'm in the process of moving so I'll have to wait until I can find the USB cord for my camera to show you.

I'm starting to talk with my bridesmaids about the bridesmaid gowns and I'm trying to narrow down a color scheme. Here are some of the things that are inspiring me right now:

Lawn games to keep guests entertained.

Indigo paired with more typical fall colors.

Burlap, twine, and wood details.

And rustic bouquets.

I finally found my wedding dress! I'm so excited to share it but you'll have to wait until after the big day!

My Friday Faves

My friends, it is Friday again and I couldn't be happier about that.
Here are some of my favorite things this week:

The hubs-to-be and I have been talking a lot about the general look and feel of the wedding. This idea for vintage country-style table numbers is right up our alley.

We also think this table setting is really sweet.

I love the bright colors of this bed. How cute would that be for a kid's room?

This print made me giggle. Does anyone else remember this song by B*Witched. I was kind of obsessed when I was in primary school.

I love 60's hair and I really love this tutorial for a more modern looking beehive!

This is another very cool tutorial. I love patterned nails.

If you would like an invitation to Pinterest, shoot me an e-mail and I will hook you up!

I hope you all have a lovely weekend!
